MEXICO — The Board of Selectmen has approved a three-year, $4,055 animal control contract with Marsha McKenna of McKennel’s Animal Adoption Agency, effective July 1.
Town Manager Jack Gaudet said this is a drop from the present annual cost of $4,771.
Board Chairman Richie Philbrick said he was pleased with the price reduction and noted McKenna does an excellent job caring for the animals.
In other business Tuesday night, Philbrick said the town is searching for a 2019 Spirit of America Foundation Tribute recipient(s).
Philbrick said this can be an individual or an organization that has volunteered to do a community project or projects. The first-year recipient was the Mexico Police Explorers. Last year, it was Arlene Thibeau, honored for knitting and donating quilts to veterans and for helping at the food bank. She is also an American Legion Auxiliary chaplain.
The Spirit of America Foundation is a public charity established in Augusta to encourage volunteerism, and it allows the tribute to be presented in the name of any municipality. There is no fee involved, and local officials choose their community’s winner.
The deadline for nominations is June 30. Nomination forms are available at the Town Office. The deadline is June 30, 2019.
