RUMFORD — Casey Cormier had 17 points to lead Mountain Valley to 73-70 double-overtime boys’ basketball victory over rival Dirigo in on Wednesday.

Cormier hit a couple of 3-pointers down the stretch in the fourth quarter to help force overtime.

Dirigo had chances to win in regulation and in the first overtime. The Falcons (16-2) hit four free throws in the second OT to seal the victory.

Cameron Godbois had 14 points and Jacob Blanchard had 12 points for the Falcons.

Jeremy St. Germain had a game-high 35 points for Dirigo (7-11), while Alex Gorham had 13 points.

Lisbon 42, Oak Hill 40

WALES — Lisbon’s Ring Ring scored a game-winning basket with 2.2 seconds left on the clock to give the Greyhounds a 42-40 boys’ basketball win over Oak Hill on Wednesday.

Cory Weirs led Lisbon with 22 points. Ring finished with 10 points. The game went back and forth throughout, and Lisbon had to come from behind in the fourth.

Gabe Samson led Oak Hill with 13 points, and Gavin Rawstrom had 11.

Boothbay 101, Telstar 30

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Steve Reny scored 18 points for the Seahawks (14-4), who jumped out to a 59-15 halftime lead against the Rebels (2-16) in MVC boys’ basketball play Wednesday.

Brett Hollowell added 14 points, Stephen Bennett had 13 and Nicholas Morley chipped in 11.

Brayden Stevens scored 19 points for Telstar.

Boys’ hockey

South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete 5, Lewiston 1

LEWISTON — Dustin Lappin scored a hat trick as South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete handed Lewiston its second loss of the season Wednesday by a score of 5-1.

After Lewiston (13-2) took the early lead on a goal by Kurtis Pelletier, Lappin tied the game. In the second period, South Portland (7-6) scored three consecutive goals.

Liam McGibbon made 24 saves in the win, while Jacob Smith made 16 saves for Lewiston.

St. Dominic 5, Falmouth 4, OT

AUBURN — Will Fletcher scored twice, including the overtime winner, as the St. Dom’s Saints rallied back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat Falmouth 5-4 on Wednesday.

The winning goal was scored 65 seconds into overtime.

Dominic Chasse had a goal and three assists for the Saints (9-4-1), while Derek Wolverton had a goal and two assists. Lucas Pushard also scored for the Saints, and Alex Roy made 21 saves in the victory.

The Yachtsmen were led by Garrett Tracy, who had two goals and an assist. Tyler Baker had two goals and Sam Kidder made 39 saves.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse 6, Windham/Westbrook 1

GORHAM — Ian Struck had four goals and an assists as Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde defeated Windham/Westbrook 6-1.

Senior Noah Austin had a goal and two assists, which puts him at 47 points this season and 150 points in his career. Hunter Merryman also had a goal for the Eagles (8-7-1), and Sean Moore made 16 saves for the victory.

Windham/Westbrook’s goal came off the stick of Travis Brown. Sean While made 27 saves in goal.

Unified basketball

Lisbon 54, Edward Little 45

AUBURN — Lisbon held on to defeat Edward Little 54-45 on Wednesday in Unified basketball.

Kristy Coleman led Lisbon with 18 points, with Dawson Martel following closely behind with 16 points. Lynn Feely also chipped in eight.

Gage Cloutier of Edward Little scored 27 to lead all scorers, while Simon Hayes scored eight points and Hailey Smith six.

Nordic skiing

KVAC/MVC classical

RUMFORD — Mt. Blue freshman Emma Charles won the girls’ classical race on the first day of the KVAC nordic ski championships at Black Mountain with a time of 15:25.1, a full 79 seconds over second-place skier Jaidyn Negley of Leavitt.

Mt. Blue’s Chelsea Seabold finished in third-place with a time of 17:03. Maura Taylor of Maranacook finished in fourth, while another Mt. Blue skier, Brynne Robbins, rounded out the top five.

The KVAC and MVC both had their boys’ and girls’ nordic championships Wednesday at Black Mountain.

Emily Kidd and Alice Cockerham of Mt. Abram finished one-two on day one of the MVC Nordic championships. The two Roadrunners finished the girls’ classical race in 20:04.0 and 20:19, respectively. Mt. Abram had four finishers in the top 12.

Winthrop’s Sam Allen, Alexis Emery and Maya Deming finished fourth, fifth and sixth.

Mt. Abram was even stronger in the boys’ classical race, sweeping the top-six finishers. The Roadrunners also had the eighth-place finisher.

Cameron Walters finished first with a time of 15:55.5, three seconds faster than Levi Bouchard.

Monmouth’s Kyle Gunnels finished in seventh with a time of 17:19.

Roy Varney of Leavitt edged out Maranacook’s Gabe Fein and Carter McPhedran for the top spot on day one of the KVAC boys’ race.

Varney finished in a time of 13:57, followed by Fein’s 14:05.1 and McPhedran’s 14:06.1.

WMC freestyle

FRYEBURG — Emily Gerencer of St. Dom’s dominated day one of the WMC nordic championships, winning the girls’ freestyle race with a time of 15:46.1, which was 51 seconds faster than second-place finisher Zoe Maguire of Fryeburg. Yarmouth had four finishers in the top nine.

Alfie Walker of Fryeburg finished first in the boys’ race. Walker finished in 13:45.6. He was followed by Peter DiNinno of Cape Elizabeth, who raced to a second-place finishing time of 13:49.9.

Mark D’Alessandro of St. Dom’s finished in ninth with a time of 15:14.

KVAC/MVC giant slalom

RUMFORD — Maguire Anuszewski of Winthrop finished first in the boys’ giant slalom on day one of the MVC alpine championship at Black Mountain on Wednesday.

Anuszewski has the two-fastest runs of the day with a total time of 1:47.53. Second-place Gage Sampson of Spruce finished with a total time of 1:55.13, which was 1.21 seconds faster than teammate Jacob Paradis. Spruce Mountain had seven skiers in the top-12.

In the boys’ KVAC giant slalom championship, Colby Vandecker had the fastest total giant slalom races for Oxford Hills at 1:41.96. Mt. Blue teammates Eli Yeaton and Sam Smith finished in second and third place, respectively, with times of 1:42.85 and 1:42.95. Oxford Hills and Mt. Blue each had three finishers in the top seven.

Rangeley’s Hannah McMillan cruised to a first-place finish in the girls’ MVC race with a time of 1:48.84. Spruce Mountain’s Julia Pomeroy was  runner-up with a time of 1:54.12, followed by Abbey Landry of Telstar and Adria Plourde of Spruce Mountain.

Mt. Blue’s Ellie Pelletier of Mt. Blue won the KVAC girls’ giant slalom in 1:50.23. Runner-up was Miranda Chadbourne of Edward Little, who finished in 1:54.12. Chadbourne was followed by Anna Erb of Maranacook and Mt. Blue’s Jenna Hanrahan.

WMC giant slalom

BRIDGTON — Killian Lathrop of Cape Elizabeth finished first on the first day of the WMC alpine championship with a total time of 1:29.45 in the giant slalom at Shawnee Peak on Wednesday.

Logan Davis of Lake Region finished in second at 1:32.05, followed by Lathrop’s teammate Cody Labonty, who finished with a time of 1:32.18.

Brooke Juneau of Fryeburg won the girls’ WMC race with a total time of 1:41.35. Greely’s Elizabeth Hanson finished in second with a time of 1:43.65. Yarmouth had three finishers in the top eight.

Women’s basketball

CMCC 62, SMCC 55

SOUTH PORTLAND — Central Maine Community College stormed back from a double-digit deficit in the third quarter to defeat Southern Maine Community College 62-55 on Wednesday in women’s basketball action.

CMCC trailed by 17 at one point in the second quarter before pulling within four at halftime. The deficit quickly grew to 12 again in the third before the Mustangs’ defense came alive and smothered the SeaWolves’ offense.

SMCC only made two field goals in the fourth quarter.

“Our defense wore them out,” CMCC coach Andrew Morong said.

Alex Bessey led the team with 19 points and five assists, while Brooke Reynolds chipped in 15 points (on 7-for-11 shooting), 10 rebounds and four steals. Jordyn Reynolds scored seven points, grabbed nine boards and blocked four shots.

Amanda Brett paced the SeaWolves with 15 points in the loss, while Abigail Ramirez scored 10 points and took down 10 rebounds.
