AUBURN — A Mexico man with a history of fleeing police was indicted by an Androscoggin County grand jury Tuesday on five counts related to a car chase in Lewiston in November.

Norman “Bo” Thompson, 46, was indicted on charges of eluding an officer and passing a roadblock, each a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. He also was charged with criminal mischief, driving to endanger and failing to stop for an officer, all misdemeanors.

At a court appearance in November, Thompson’s bail was set at $10,000 cash or real estate valued at at least $50,000. According to court documents, he remains in custody.

Officer Nicholas Meserve of the Lewiston Police Department wrote in an affidavit he spotted Thompson driving a Saturn on Jefferson Street on Thanksgiving Day and blocked his path with his cruiser. A second officer positioned his cruiser on the driver’s side of the Saturn. Meserve got out of his cruiser and ordered Thompson to shut off the car and exit the vehicle.

Instead, Thompson began to back the car up until he looked into his rear-view mirror and saw an Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office cruiser heading toward him with its lights flashing, according to Meserve.

Thompson shifted the car into drive and accelerated toward Meserve’s cruiser, managing to squeeze between it and a snowbank but damaging one of the cruiser’s rear fender.

Thompson’s criminal history dates to 1990, according to police. In 2007, he made headlines when he jumped off a third-story balcony while attempting to flee from police on Howe Street in Lewiston.

In 2009, Thompson pleaded guilty to a dozen crimes for which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with all of that time suspended except what he had already spent in jail. He was placed on probation for five years.
