50 years ago: 1969
John Libby of Auburn will show a display of gems and minerals collected in this area as a supplement to a talk being presented at the Monday night meeting of the Androscoggin Historical Society on Tuesday evening at 7:30 o’clock in the County Building. Mr. Libby, a past president of the society, will also talk about rockhounds and their hobby. The speaker of the evening, Mrs. John H. Labbie of Auburn, will discuss the Mt. Apatite mines, entitling her talk, “Auburn’s Underground Treasures.”
25 years ago: 1994
Twenty-seven clubs from New England and Canada marched from Kennedy Park to the armory Sunday morning to attend closing ceremonies and award presentations after the three-day event. Color guards, majorettes and drum and bugle corps competed for perpetual plaques to hang for a year at their club.
