FARMINGTON — A Jay woman pleaded guilty Thursday to selling cocaine and heroin from her apartment at 446 Main St. in Jay on July 30, 2018.

Angie Braley, 38, also entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of violation condition of release in Franklin County Superior Court.

She had been indicted  in October 2018 on two higher felony charges of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs. The state dismissed those charges and a separate violation of condition of release on Thursday.

If the case had gone to trial, Deputy District Attorney James Andrews said a Maine Drug Enforcement agent would have testified that a warrant was executed at an apartment at Jay Hill Apartments on July 30 and subsequently heroin and cocaine were seized. The drugs were individually packaged for sales and messages on phones seized at the apartment would identify Braley as being involved in drug trafficking, Andrews said.

A chemist would also have testified that drugs were tested and they were in fact heroin and cocaine, he said.

When police and drug agents searched the apartment last year, they found 121.2 grams of suspected heroin and 85.2 grams of crack cocaine, according to an agent’s affidavit filed with the court.

A co-defendant in the case, Darnell Smith, 21, of Bronx, New York pleaded guilty in November to selling cocaine from the apartment leased to Braley. He is serving a four-year prison sentence.

A conviction on the lesser trafficking charge that Braley pleaded to is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, while a conviction on the violation charge carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail.

Braley’s attorney Patrick Nickerson withdrew his motions to suppress evidence in the case.

Judge Susan Oram said it was her understanding that they would not proceed to sentencing Thursday because Braley is pursuing an alternative option for sentencing.

If it does not work out, there is a recommended sentence agreed to by the state prosecutor and defense. The proposed sentence was not mentioned in open court.

Oram said sentencing is set for Feb. 6 but it depends on what is going on.

Braley continues to be held without bail at the Franklin County Detention Center.
