EUSTIS — A Pennsylvania man was injured Tuesday when the snowmobile he was driving hit a rear tire on an empty logging truck driving by on Tim Pond Road.
John Derea, 71, of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, who was operating a 2014 Arctic Cat snowmobile with a party of snowmobilers, had brought the machine to a stop where the snowmobile trail crossed the road, Franklin County Sgt. Matthew Brann wrote in an email.
Derea then went to drive the snowmobile across Tim Pond Road and failed to yield to an empty log tractor-trailer unit that was going by and hit a back tire, he wrote.
The 2014 Kenworth truck is owned by RC McLucas Trucking Inc. of Porter and was being driven by David Sweetser, 39, of Greenwood. The truck was not damaged.
The snowmobile ran into one of the rear tires on the trailer and the machine was totaled, according to Brann.
Derea received a possible arm injury and was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
Maine Game Warden Dan Christianson assisted Brann at the scene of the accident reported at about 12:37 p.m.
“There are no charges pending,” Brann wrote.
