TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat held off a furious comeback attempt by Leavitt and handed the Hornets their first loss of the season, 54-48, in KVAC boys’ basketball action on Monday.

Austin Damon scored 17 points to lead the Eagles (8-6), while Jared Balser chipped in with 16 points.

The Hornets (11-1) trailed, who trailed, 40-25, after three quarters, were led by Wyatt Hathaway with 21 points and Joziah Learned with 18 points.

Mountain Valley 59, Spruce Mountain 50

JAY — Keegan Davis poured in a game-high 23 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 59-50 win over Spruce Mountain in boys’ basketball action.

Dylan Desroches, Draven Finnegan and Will Sorensen added seven points apiece for the Falcons (11-1). Andrew Shaw led the Phoenix (10-3) with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Edward Little 52, Gorham 50

GORHAM — Wol Maiwen scored 15 of his game-high 24 points in the second half and the Eddies (11-2) outscored the Rams (8-5) 15-10 in the fourth to get the win in Gorham.

Grant Nadeau scored 13 points, and Tyler Haines and Jordan Bretton each had 10 for Gorham, which went on a 20-7 run in the third quarter to take a 40-37 lead.

Camryn Yorke and Austin Brown each added eight points for Edward Little.

Girls’ basketball

Winthrop 36, Dirigo 20

DIXFIELD — Aaliyah WilsonFalcone scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Ramblers to the MVC win.

Kena Souza chipped in 10 for Winthrop (11-1).

Oxford Hills 46, Cheverus 24

PORTLAND — Julia Colby had 15 points with nine steals, seven rebounds and four assists as the Vikings (12-2) rolled past the Stags (5-9) at Portland.

Maggie Hartnett added 15 points, and Cassidy Dumont had 10 points and four rebounds for Oxford Hills.

Lauren Jordan and Ella Davies each scored six points for Cheverus. Jordan also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Windham 44, Lewiston 40

WINDHAM — Meghan Hoffses and Tara Flanders each scored five points as the Eagles (9-4) outscored Lewiston (3-10) 17-12 in the fourth period to win at Windham.

Kayla Gorman led Windham with 10 points. Emily Strachan scored 15 and Madeline Foster 11 for the Blue Devils.

Ashley Perrault and Alyssa McTyre scored 10 points apiece for Dirigo (3-9).

Gardiner 45, Mt. Blue 43

FARMINGTON — Gardiner rallied from a 22-16 halftime deficit to build an eight-point lead, then held off a Mt. Blue comeback attempt to secure a 45-43 win.

Bailey Poore scored 13 of her game-high 21 points from the free throw line to lead the Tigers (9-5), while Aimee Adams chipped in with nine points. Lexi Mittelstadt led the Cougars (6-7) with 14 points, while Rylee Keaten added nine points and Eva-Marie Stevens eight points.

Mt. Ararat 55, Leavitt 41

TURNER — Ainsley Bryant scored 17 with the help of three three-pointers as Mt. Ararat cruised to a 55-41 win over Leavitt in girls’ basketball on Monday.

Bryant’s 17 was a game-high point total but Theresa Breed also chipped in 12 points for Mt. Ararat (7-7).

Leavitt (4-9) couldn’t overcome the 12-point halftime hole it was in. However, Alison Noniweicz paced the Hornets with 11 while Emelia Bowie tallied 10.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde 4, Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/GNG 0

BRUNSWICK — Noah Austin scored two goals and freshman goalie Sean Moore picked up his first varsity shutout as Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde defeated Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/GNG 3-0 Monday night at Watson Arena.

Tristen Cloutier notched his first career goal in the second period for the Eagles  (6-6-1). Moore stopped all 24 shots he faced in net.

Xavier Michaud made 20 saves in the losing effort for the Kings (5-5-1).

Girls’ hockey

St. Dom’s 10, Yarmouth/Freeport 0

YARMOUTH — Avery Lutrzykowski notched three goals and assisted on three others to lead St. Dom’s past Yarmouth/Freeport, 10-0, in girls’ ice hockey action.

Bugsy Hammerton added two goals and three assists for the Saints, while netminder Maddie Boulet picked up the shutout.

Women’s basketball

Bates 66, Colby-Sawyer 50

LEWISTON —Megan Graff dropped in 19 points to lead Bates to a 66-50 win over Colby-Sawyer.

Graff added seven rebounds and five assists to her totals, while Julia Middlebrook scored 10 points for the Bobcats (8-8).

Oxford Hills alum Tianna Sugars led the Chargers (11-7) with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
