DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the mystery photos by Russ Dillingham that appear in the Sunday paper, does he take a picture every day or does he have a bunch on hand? I enjoy them and have known some of the pictures, but haven’t got picked yet.
— No name, no town
ANSWER: Russ is such a talented, hard-working photographer and I really enjoy the occasional opportunities I have to work on a project with him. He says, “I try to stay a month ahead so the newspaper’s pages can be designed in advance. Ninety-five percent of them are taken within a month of being published. I also have started to go back to places I used many years ago, but shoot it in a different way. Other than my drone videos, the mystery photos are what people always want to talk about.”
Our esteemed editor added, “Russ is always on the lookout for a good mystery. It’s not an exact science … he takes photos when he can and sometimes has some in storage, but he likes to keep them fresh each week.”
If readers have suggestions for good mystery photos, please forward them to Russ at rdillingham@sunjournal.com.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am an 85-year-old woman with severe arthritis. On Thursday, Jan. 3, I tripped and fell in the Central Maine Medical Center parking garage and was not able to get up. One young woman walked right by me, pretending not to notice, and two cars drove by. I wasn’t sure what to do, but then a young woman saw me and offered assistance. She professionally and gently helped me get to my feet. I was so grateful and asked her name, which is Christiana. I believe she may work at 12 High Street.
People who are genuinely kind, like Christiana, deserve a special prayer, and that’s just what I did.
— Irene, no town
ANSWER: I am so sorry to hear of your distress, Irene, but grateful, as you are, that a guardian angel came along to help you.
How many times can I say it? Kindness matters. Readers, when you are out and about, please be “awake and aware.” Look for opportunities to be a “Sun Spot” in someone’s life.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for the name and contact information of the plumber who fixed the Moen faucet.
— Marcel, no town
ANSWER: Oh yes! Our reader, Deb, of Auburn, was thrilled that she finally found someone help with the mystery of her malfunctioning kitchen faucet and lack of water pressure. Her letter letting us know that all was well was published in the Dec. 3 Sun Spots. The plumber who solved the case is Mike Adler in Auburn. His number is 207-783-7114. What would we do without these “everyday heroes” in our lives?
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to thank the person who was so generous in paying for my meal at Ruby Tuesday’s during Christmas week, and wish that person a very Happy New Year and that God will bless them in a very special way.
