Society to hold annual meeting
NEW GLOUCESTER — The 2019 annual meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road (next to the Town Hall).
All members are urged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Auction to benefit Mexico mission trip
OXFORD — There will be a 3-T Auction at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Oxford Advent Christian Church, Route 26.
At 5 p.m. there will be a free meal of beans, hot dogs, coleslaw and dinner rolls. The auction will begin at 6. The items to be auctioned off will consist of “Talents,” “Treats” and “Treasures.” Some of the items being auctioned off are homemade items, household treasures, artwork, handmade decorations and sweet treats such as cookies, cakes and whoopie pies. Additional donations to be auctioned off can be brought in the night of the auction.
The church will be sending a team of local people to San Felipe, Mexico, as part of the 99-plus-1 mission to provide assistance to people in need in the area. Folks will work in people’s homes providing electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs; provide vision testing; and support to the rehabilitation center, orphanage and school.
People wishing to make donations to the Mexico Mission may do so by sending a check payable to OACC “Mexico Mission 2019,” 1130 Main St., Oxford, ME 04270.
Food closet gets UMF intern
FARMINGTON — Randy LaRue, a senior at the University of Maine at Farmington, is the first intern at the Care and Share Food Closet.
Since the beginning of the 2018 fall semester, he has been working at the food closet six hours each week under the supervision of Co-Director Dana Bullen. The title of this collaborative effort between Care and Share and UMF is a Nonprofit Administrative Internship, and involves LaRue in all aspects of nonprofit functioning and management.
LaRue, who is from Orland, enrolled at UMF in the fall of 2017, and will receive a BA in science in the spring of 2019.
The Partnership for Civic Advancement, a collaborative effort between the University of Maine and Care and Share Food Closet, establishes internships to bring new ideas and points of view to the food closet while providing skill sets and possible academic credits for students.
