Honey Bee Club to meet

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will have its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Oxford County Cooperative Extension Office, 9 Olson Road in South Paris.

There will be a presentation, “Preparing Beeswax for Candles and Other Crafts,” given by Master Beekeeper Carol Cottrill. Each meeting includes time for questions on other beekeeping topics. Beginner beekeepers can receive help from those with more experience keeping bees.

The meeting is open to the public.

Beekeeping school to start

MEXICO — The Western Maine Beekeeper’s Association will hold their annual Beekeeping School starting Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, at Region 9 School.

Ten weekly classes are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays. Registration starts at 6 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria. Preregistration is not required. Sessions are taught by area beekeepers.

Class subjects include acquiring honey bees, setting up hives, harvesting honey, disease prevention and hive management for each season. Students will gain hands-on experience with their honey bees.

Board Game Cafe at library

FREEPORT — Families are invited to attend the Board Game Cafe from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Freeport Community Library, 10 Library Drive.

A local game store brings a different selection of games each month for folks to choose from. Adult supervision required for children under 11. Board Game Cafe events are free and open to the public.

VFW Post to hold monthly meeting

LEWISTON — The James B. Longley-Normand Dionne VFW Post 9150 will hold a monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave.

Danville Junction Grange to meet

AUBURN — Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet for dessert at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Members are reminded to bring clipped coupons for troops and donations for PAL.
