Food pantry seeks donations

AUBURN — The High Street Congregational Church Food Pantry has ongoing needs for the following items: peanut butter, canned vegetables, soup, canned pasta, canned meats, canned fruit, dry cereal, baking items, soup, crackers and toilet paper.

Auburn United Methodist Church collects items for the pantry. Donations may be brought to 439 Park Ave.

Bog Hoot Quilt Society meeting

MECHANIC FALLS — Area residents who enjoy crafts and companionship are invited to join community and church members at the Anglican Church of the Transfiguration (formerly the Mechanic Falls Congregational Church) on Elm Street for the Bog Hoot Quilt Society meeting.

The group meetis at 10 a.m. Tuesdays. The entrance to the downstairs is from the driveway to the church.

AMVETS Post 777 to meet 

PARIS — AMVETS Post 777, which serves the Oxford Hills, holds monthly meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month at the American Legion, 12 Church St.

Meetings are open to all veterans.

Texas hold ’em poker 

PARIS — The AMVETS monthly Texas hold ’em poker tournaments are held at from 5 p.m. to midnight on the first Friday of the month at the American Legion Hall.

The event is open to the public. The Auxiliary will have a food concession open from 5 p.m. until the end of second break. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Buy-in is usually $50 with a license fee of $5 and an optional $5 High Hand.

FARMINGTON — The SeniorsPlus office will be open for scheduled appointments Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Walk-in hours are from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will be held on the second Thursday of every month.

Staff will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families. These services are free and open to the public.

Texas hold’em Poker at Post

LOCKE MILLS — A Texas hold’em poker tournament will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Jackson-Silver Post 68, 595 Gore Road.

Doors open at 11 a.m., games begin at 1 p.m. There is a $50 buy-in, high hand options, pull tabs, 50/50, and meals and beverages will be available.

Mayor to speak at rotary breakfast

AUBURN — Mayor Jason Levesque will speak at the A-L Rotary breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave. 

Levesque will be speaking about the 2019 Sesquicentennial of Auburn. Elected in 2017, Levesque is a fifth generation Auburn resident and a 1992 graduate of Edward Little High School. After attending college at West Virginia Wesleyan and concluding an eight-year tour in the U.S. Army, he realized that he wanted to start his company, Argo Contact Centers, and raise his family here in his hometown.

Cost for breakfast is $15. This event is open to the public.
