Christy Gardner’s service dog, Moxie, was one of the stars of the show Monday afternoon at a presentation at Leeds Central School. Gardiner, who was paralyzed during an Army peacekeeping mission evacuation, chose to have both of her legs amputated so she could walk again. The students of Leeds Central School were inspired recently by a photograph showing former President George H.W. Bush’s service dog, Sully, lying next to Bush’s casket. The students have embarked on a fundraising project to raise money for a person in need of a service dog. Gardner’s presentation Monday kicked off the project. (Sun Journal photo by Andree Kehn)
