DEAR SUN SPOTS: I intend to create a repository of memories, experiences and interaction, etc. with spoken Irish in America. It is important that these experiences are preserved and protected for future generations and for research. This will add to our understanding of the history of spoken Irish in America and spoken Irish in America today. The first step in my research is the collection of all this information. This is focused on groups of people, including those who have memories of spoken Irish when they were younger; those who have heard stories about spoken Irish a long time ago; those who spoke/speak Irish; and anyone who has any information (no matter how small you may feel it to be) on spoken Irish in America now or historically.

Understand that it’s my intention that these stories be edited, if necessary, and published and/or made available for general public reference. DEAR SUN SPOTS: Cub Scout Pack 116 is having a toy drive and holiday ornament workshop. This will be our third year and we’ve always had a great response. In fact, it has been so successful that we’re moving to a bigger location.

This year’s event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the children’s department at the Lewiston Public Library. There will be ornament-making, crafts, face-painting and candy canes for all. We ask that anyone attending bring a new, unwrapped toy which will be donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program and distributed to local families in need. DEAR SUN SPOTS: A plumber who had been to my house previously saw my Nov. 16 request in Sun Spots about help with kitchen water pressure. He contacted me and fixed my faucet problem. The Moen head, a 1.5 gallon per minute, needed a 2.2 nozzle. I found out there are fixtures with heads that restrict flow lower than regulations (2.5). Thank you, Sun Spots, as you were instrumental in solving the situation!
