L/A Nordiques 13, Cape Cod 2

The L/A Nordiques scored four times in the first period to put Cape Cod away early as they went on to win 13-2 in Lewiston on Friday night.

Colby Audette scored his two goals — which led L/A, along with two goals from Trent Sheldon — in the first period. Hans Watson and Joshua Sanchez also tallied goals in the first. The Nordiques earned at least a goal from 11 players.

Cape Cod’s Mike Goroshko scored at the end of the first period and Leevi Kervinen scored midway through the second period for the Islanders’ only goals.

In the second period, L/A received goals from Sergei Anisimov, Sheldon, Cole Ouellette, Crewz Berry and Joe Bisson.

The Nordiques also scored four more times in the third period to end the game. Kyle Secor opened the scoring in the third off assists from Watson and Audette. Three minutes later Armand O’Keefe scored, followed by sheldon’s second. Zach Mullen pushed one in with 24 seconds remaining to cap off the game.

Cape Cod goalkeeper Josh Chausse saved 45 shots, while Jason St. Pierre saved 14.

JP Chauvin and Kyle Secor led the game with three assists each on the night as 12 players tallied assists for L/A. 

Men’s Basketball

ACPHS 87, CMCC 82

The Central Maine Community College Mustangs gave up double-digit points to four players off the bench of Albany College of Pharmacy in an 87-82 loss on Friday.

The Mustangs (7-2) were led by Cody Tozier’s 13 points off the bench, but it wasn’t enough on Friday as Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (4-5) held off CM at the end.

After amassing 49 points but just a two-point lead at halftime, the Panthers scored 38 in the second half to win. Joel Martineau and Noah Farnsworth paced Albany with 14 points, both off the bench. Phil Georgio, John Ambert and Naythan Beltran all scored 10. Kyle Matousek scored nine points while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.

Josh Chery scored 11 and grabbed 11 boards while Elijah Barbour scored 11 with three 3-pointers for CM.

UMF 84, UMPI 74

Milani Hicks reached the 1,000 career points mark thanks to a team-high 21 points in University of Maine at Farmington’s 84-74 win over host UMaine-Presque Isle in NAC men’s basketball Friday.

Hicks shot 7 of 12 from the floor and added 13 rebounds. Riley Robinson also scored 21 points for the Beavers, reaching the total on 6 of 12 shooting.

Shyquinn Dix and DeAndre Duncombe each poured in a game-high 22 points for the Owls.

Women’s basketball

CMCC 96, ACPHS 39

From start to finish, the Central Maine Mustangs enjoyed a comfortable lead en route to a 96-39 win over Albany College of Pharmacy on Friday night.

Five players scored in double digits for the Mustangs (8-1), led by 13 from Alex Bessey, as CM scored more than 20 points in each quarter.

CM jumped out to a 28-5 lead after the first quarter and increased its lead to 36 over Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (1-7) at halftime. Brooke Reynolds accumulated a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action. Jordyn Reynolds grabbed 10 boards and Patricia Vazquez Diaz pulled down eight.

For the Panthers, Emma Webster scored 12 to lead the team and also had three steals. Ava Misner was the next leading scorer with six as well as six rebounds and three steals.

UMPI 46, UMF 41

University of Maine at Presque Isle steadily pulled ahead in the first half, then held off UMaine-Farmington’s second-half rally for a 46-41 victory in an NAC women’s basketball contest in Presque Isle on Friday.

Rhylee Wright paced the Owls with 11 points, while Emmy Churchill and Marissa Reagle pitched in with 10 apiece. Reagle also swiped 12 steals away.

McKenna Brodeur led the Beavers with 11 points, and Paige Carter pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to go along with six points.

College Hockey

Maine 2, Vermont 1, OT

Ryan Smith scored less than two minutes into overtime to lift visiting University of Maine over University of Vermont, 2-1, in Hockey East action Friday night.

Brendan Robbins put the Black Bears (5-7-1, 3-3-1 Hockey East) on the scoreboard first, just over four minutes into the game, but Conor O’Neil tied it for the Catamounts (4-7-0, 1-6-0 HE) later in the period.

Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup and Tim Doherty assisted on Robbins’ goal, and Chase Pearson and Mitchell Fossier notched the helpers on Smith’s game-winner. Vlad Dzhioshvili had an assist for Vermont.

Jeremy Swayman stopped 34 of 35 shots in goal for Maine, while Stefanos Lekkas made 22 saves for the Catamounts.

The two teams will play again Saturday at 5 p.m.
