MEXICO — An open house is set Saturday to celebrate the opening of a faith-based residential treatment center established by the First Baptist Church of Mexico.
From 4 to 6 p.m., the public is invited to tour Harvest Home at 5 Cherry St., across from the church.
According to First Baptist Ministry of Missions, which will oversee residents and staff, the heart of the program will be daily exposure to the need for discovering humility and salvation in Jesus Christ. Spiritual counseling is required, however “… we seek only to present the foundational Gospel … the ultimate decision remain(s) between the participant and God.” Personal beliefs will not prevent Harvest Home from doing its best to help anyone in need willing to be helped, a ministry statement said.
The home will provide free shelter, security, education and support for those dealing with domestic violence, addiction, poverty, homelessness, abandonment and similar hardships.
In addition to meals and other basic needs, volunteers will help residents obtain professional, spiritual, emotional and financial counseling, and assist in setting goals and networking with businesses.
The home will accommodate six women on the second floor and four men in a renovated garage. There is a live-in manager, 24-hour daily supervision and security cameras.
Those wishing to be considered for residency or for staffing, or wanting more information may contact Pastor Tony Rea at at 207-364-8712.
