WATERFORD — St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble will bring its mix of classic, sacred music and traditional Russian folk songs to Waterford at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Waterford Congregational Church on Plummer Hill Road.

The program, called “CREDO,” unites “epochs, cultures, religions, languages and peoples with the aim of opening hearts through the music.” The group, founded in 2003, travels through Europe and North America, sharing its music in churches, hospitals, elderly care facilities and colleges and universities.

In case of inclement weather, the performance will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Wilkins House.

The all-male quartet, whose members are all classically trained, will perform a program that ranges from ancient songs of the Orthodox Church music by the masters — Mozart, Bruckner, Rachmaninoff and Poulenc, among others — to obscure Russian folk songs and well-known tunes such as the Volga Boatman and Moscow Nights.

The group’s repertoire of Russian traditional and religious music is as engaging and varied as the members’ warm, humorous and talented personalities.

The quartet includes tenors Andre Volikov and Vadim Smantser, and baritone-basses Kirill Sokolov and Sergay Shapinsky. Members of the ensemble have attended the Glinka Choir School and the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

There will be a brief intermission during the Waterford Concert. There will also be CDs recorded by the group available for sale.

Admission to the concert is by donation; funds raised will go toward the church’s Music Mission Fund and local charities.
