FARMINGTON — A grandfather and his step-great-grandson remained in critical condition Wednesday, a day after their car skidded into a tractor-trailer on Route 27 in Kingfield, killing a grandson, officials said.
Driver Leroy Gordon, 76, and his step-great-grandson Scott Kidder, 18, both of Farmington, were being treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where they were listed in critical condition, a spokesman said.
Gordon’s grandson, Seth Gordon, 28, of Farmington, was killed instantly in the crash, according to Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr.
Seth is Leroy’s grandson and Scott is Leroy’s step-great-grandson, according to a family member.
Witnesses told police the Subaru Legacy sedan the three men were in lost traction on the road and skidded sideways into the path of a northbound tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon during a snowstorm.
Truck driver Cedrick Allaire, 25, of Westbury, Quebec was not hurt, according to Nichols.
Witnesses told deputies that neither vehicle appeared to be traveling at excessive speed.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
