LEWISTON — The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council is hosting a panel discussion with four members of the Lewiston Police Department on Wednesday.

The talk is part of the council’s Shine on Lewiston series. This one is Police Insider: True Blue.

Panelists will be Chief Brian O’Malley, Sgt. Roger Landry, Officer Matt Vierling and Sgt. Carly Conley.

Questions the council plans to ask include: Why did they become police officers? How do they stay positive and cope with the risks of serving? What’s their most rewarding call? How has the job changed? And why work in Lewiston?

Council member Zachary Morin said the reason for the discussion is people don’t always know what Lewiston police do, according to a news release from the council adviser Dot Perham-Whittier. Residents can get to know the officers and realize they are “people with feelings and families,” Morin said in a recent radio interview with the Big Z.

The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall. The public is invited.
