SUMNER — Fire destroyed a home on Gammon Road on Thursday in an early-morning blaze that brought firefighters from several towns.

The home was said to be a total loss, although early reports were that nobody was injured in the fire.

A few hours later, a mobile home burned in Dixfield, sending a family scurrying for safety in the bitter cold.

In Sumner, smoke and fire were reported coming from the home at 500 Gammon Road sometime after 1 a.m. Thursday. Sumner volunteer fire crews were joined at the scene by firefighters from several towns, including Peru, Canton, Paris and West Paris.

There was no further information later Thursday on what caused the fire.

The Dixfield blaze was reported a few hours later on Canton Point Road. There were no reports of injuries, but a family of three was left homeless in the blaze.
