FARMINGTON — A Franklin County justice sentenced a former Phillips man Tuesday to serve three years of a 10-year sentence for sexually abusing two girls under age 14.

Michael Harriman, 28, will serve the sentence after he completes the four years he is serving for a probation violation in an Androscoggin County case.

Harriman pleaded guilty May 7 in Franklin County Superior Court to two felony charges of unlawful sexual contact in two separate cases. Each conviction carried a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

The state dismissed other felonies, including three counts of gross sexual assault, in the negotiated plea agreement. Harriman was indicted in September 2017 and January 2018.

The abuse occurred Sept. 1, 2017, for one child and from Jan. 19, 2015, to January 2017 for the other child.

Justice Robert Mullen sentenced Harriman to 10 years with all but three years suspended followed by four years probation on each of the sexual abuse charges.

The sentences will run concurrently and consecutive to the sentence for violating probation in an Androscoggin County case in September 2017.

He admitted in January to the violation and was ordered to serve four years remaining on an eight-year sentence related to a burglary and theft of firearms when he lived in Lisbon in 2010.

Harriman is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, Deputy District Attorney James Andrews and Harriman’s attorney, George Hess, said in court.

Mullen ordered Harriman to have no contact with children under age 18 and the victims and witnesses in the cases. Another condition includes undergoing sex offender counseling to the satisfaction of his probation officer, Andrews said.
