WATERVILLE — Six certified nursing assistants received their certificates at graduation ceremonies at Northern Light Continuing Care-Lakewood nursing home on Oct. 30.
Billie Jo Ramsdell, Victoria Huff, Jessica Downs, Summer Ogden, Mary Ellen Goneau and Makayla Coyne completed the 180-program provided through partnerships with Western Maine Community Action at the CareerCenter in Lewiston and Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education in Waterville.
An eight-week on-the-job training program was provided through a grant facilitated by Western Maine Community Action, a partner in the CareerCenter system.
Director of Nursing Patricia Shuck welcomed everyone to the pinning ceremony. Other speakers included R.N.s Chris Miller and Lynn Pagliaro, talent acquisitions specialist Robin Doody; Western Maine Community Action employment and training business specialist Monica Millhime and nuring home Administrator Shannon Lockwood.
“This graduation class is not only the result of the students’ dedication but also the best model of train to work where business, education, and workforce development collaborate,” said Patti Saarinen, Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act site coordinator for Western Maine Community Action, serving Androscoggin, Franklin, Oxford, Kennebec and Somerset counties.
On the job training is an incentive-based program providing 50 percent of a trainee’s wages during the duration of the program, Saarinen said. “Students are empowered with the skills and knowledge essential to the specific job field.”
