Plastic film is removed from the recycling stream at virtually every stage of the recycling process at ecomaine in Portland. The soft plastic is not recyclable and is one of the most troublesome contaminants in the recycling process, necessitating regular complete shutdowns of the machinery so that the plastics can be cut out of the machinery.
