The Bulldogs dominated their Sept. 28 meeting at Fitzpatrick Stadium, 42-8. The Red Eddies couldn’t get anything going on offense until their final drive. Given Leighton Girardin’s comeback heroics the past three weeks, Portland hopes the outcome won’t be riding on a final drive.

No. 3 Cheverus (7-2) at No. 2 Oxford Hills (6-2)

A North semifinal

Saturday, 6 p.m.

The Vikings overpowered the Stags, 42-14, on Sep. 29 in Portland with big plays on offense and four turnovers by the defense. But Cheverus did move the ball, particularly on the ground with Teigan Lindstedt and Ian Trafford.

No. 4 Cape Elizabeth (5-4) at No. 1 Leavitt (8-1)

C South semifinal

Saturday, 7 p.m.

Capers played from behind throughout, which is why QB Andrew Hartel threw an eye-popping 47 times in the Hornets’ 42-20 win on Sept. 14. That produced the most points a Leavitt opponent has scored this year, but Cape still needs to run to win.

No. 7 Oak Hill (4-5) at No. 6 Madison (5-4)

D South semifinal

Friday, 7 p.m.

Both teams went on the road last week and helped prove (along with Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale) Class D South’s depth. The Bulldogs’ only home win this season came against the Raiders, 47-34, on Sept. 28.

No. 3 Maranacook (6-3) at No. 2 Dirigo (7-1)

Class E semifinal

Friday, 7 p.m.

As worthy of an old school football fan’s attention as anything in Classes A-D. The Cougars nipped the Black Bears, 21-18, three weeks ago at Harlow Park. 

1. Thornton Academy (8-0)

Golden Trojans beat Sanford, 48-0, to end regular season, rested up last week, and draw Sanford again in semifinals.

2. Scarborough (6-1)

Bonny Eagle is Scarborough’s Sanford in the same scenario described above. Except the Scots gave the Red Storm a game in Week 8, a 45-38 Scarborough win.

3. Kennebunk (9-0)

Rams didn’t play B South semifinal opponent Greely during regular season, but rival Marshwood did, and the Rangers gave the Hawks a hard time in 22-0 loss.

4. Marshwood (8-1)

Hawks dominated Sept. 28 meeting with semifinal foe Falmouth, scoring every time they had the ball while not allowing the Yachtsmen a single first down in the first half of a 45-0 rout.

5. Portland (7-1)

If Bulldogs raise their level of play for the playoffs at the rate they did in 2017, look out.

6. Oxford Hills (6-2)

After a welcome week of rest, Vikings encounter an improved Cheverus team in semifinals.

7. Fryeburg Academy (8-1)

Keeping big plays to a minimum and forcing turnovers are keys to Raiders’ stingy defense, which hasn’t allowed double digit points since Aug. 31.

8. Wells (9-0)

Tyler Bridge scored all seven of Warriors’ touchdowns while rushing for 307 yards in Warriors’ quarterfinal win over Poland.

9. Bonny Eagle (6-3)

If any team could have used a quarterfinal game going into a tough matchup with Scarborough, it’s the Scots, losers of three in a row. 

10. (Tie) Leavitt & MCI (8-1)

Like last year, both teams cruised through the quarterfinals. Both are hoping their semifinal games aren’t carbon copies of 2017, which were a one-point loss for Hornets and one-point win for Huskies.
