I hope others will join me in voting for Angus King for the U.S. Senate on Nov. 6. As an independent, he can bridge the gap between the parties to get something done. He has supporters in both parties. He is respected as a moderate, self-made successful small businessman with integrity and vision.

As a former governor of Maine (independent, 1995-2003), he has the experience and knows that it takes compromise to move government forward. As an independent in the Senate, King is in a unique position to help Maine and the nation. Control of the Senate may well depend on which party he supports on issues. Both parties are going to have to listen carefully to what he has to say.

He will protect Medicare and Social Security while continuing to promote Veterans benefits.

King has a track record. Voters know who Angus King is and that he can be trusted.

Richard Hamann, Lewiston
