LIVERMORE — Selectpersons on Monday evening considered the possibility of recognizing town employees, but couldn’t decide how, when and at what cost.

“Town Clerk Renda Guild asked about recognizing doing an employee recognition for office workers, the road crew, Fire Department, any of our employees,” Selectperson Ben Guild said. “I think it’s a good idea.”

Selectperson Tom Gould suggested awards be at the discretion of department heads.

“The awards are something they could determine,” he said.

Ben Guild said an Employee of the Month might not work given the few people employed by the town, but an Employee of the Quarter might be more appropriate.

Resident Dwight Hines said he supported employee recognitions.

In another employee issue, highway foreman Roger Ferland suggested giving town workers a turkey or a ham at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Gould said it was a great idea if there’s money in the budget.

“Some businesses give a gift certificate in lieu of a turkey or ham,” Administrative Assistant Amy Byron said.

Selectperson Scott Richmond said some companies give employees a $25 Hannaford gift card.

That would be easier than having the town place an order, choose the correct sizes and arrange for pickup and delivery, Byron said.

Gould suggested leaving the details to the department heads and taking money from the benefits account for town employees.

Byron said there are separate accounts for health insurance and retirement benefits. She is going to check out how much is in the charges account, a miscellaneous fund.

“I would hate to put additional pressure on a department budget,” she said.

In other business, highway foreman Roger Fernald said cold mix has been applied to Butter Hill Road and workers will fix the lips on driveways next week. He said Sterling paving company recommended large trucks stay off the road for a couple of weeks.

He said Robinson and Strickland Ferry roads will be paved in the spring.
