The “Candy Corn Fairy” gets a warm welcome from first-graders at Minot Consolidated School on Tuesday. Title 1 teacher Wendy Simard 10 years ago started the National Candy Corn Day tradition of visiting each classroom on Oct. 30. “Everyone knows I am crazy for candy corn,” said Simard, who hand-painted ceramic candy corns for all 40 staffers at the school. Simard’s three children were students at the school at one point. “‘Mom, I’m not riding to school with you,'” Simard’s children would tell her on National Candy Corn Day. “It’s just a fun day. We like to celebrate the little things,” Simard said. (Daryn Slover/Sun Journal)
