LEWISTON — Police said a local driver was charged after his car struck another and he drove away and hit a house Monday afternoon.

Police said Kyle Howell, 28, of Lewiston failed to stop at a stop sign at Montello and Fair streets and struck a Chevrolet Aveo owned by Raychel Warner of Lewiston. Howell drove away and his car struck a house at Montello Street and Buttonwood Lane.

Howell and Warner were not injured.

The house had minor structural damage. Lt. David St. Pierre said there was extensive damage to landscaping, including the lawn and bushes.

St. Pierre said Howell had a valid license, and it’s not yet known why he fled.

Howell was arrested and was released on $200 unsecured bail.
