PROSPECT (AP) — Organizers of a Stephen King-themed horror event at a historic fort in Maine say about 4,800 people attended, close to 2,000 more than expected.
The Fright at the Fort event in Prospect also tied up traffic for a while.
The Bangor Daily News reports Friends of Fort Knox Executive Director Dean Martin says there were so many people that they hit capacity last Saturday. Marin said he never dreamed of the record attendance in in the 19-year history of the Halloween-themed event.
Martin attributes the large crowds to the good weather and an ongoing, but false, rumor that the famous author would be present.
Martin says if King shows up, “you probably wouldn’t even know.”
King was born in Portland. He owns a home in Bangor and in Lovell.
