NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced their November Calendar.
Chris Doyle will come in Tuesday, Nov. 27, and demonstrate how to do wire wrapping. Note that some classes will meet on a different day or at a different time. The Center will be closed for Thanksgiving, Nov. 22 and 23.
Programs are offered at the Center unless otherwise noted and are free to anyone impacted by cancer, survivors and caregivers. New visitors are welcome to stop by on drop-in days and to participate in one or all programs
Drop-in hours are Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or look for resources. They have many pamphlets and a lending library. Activities such as coloring, knitting and games are available at all times.
Turkey Trot 4 Hope — 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22. Turkey Trot 4 Hope is CRCWM’s signature event to raise funds that support their mission. Held on the morning of Thanksgiving Day, the event offers a scenic 4-mile or 1-mile run/walk through downtown Norway. New this year, participants may create a fundraising team. There is no minimum fundraising requirement. Prizes include Sunday River season passes for youth age groups and for adult age groups in 10-year increments. Volunteers are also needed to assist in a variety of ways: help with set-up day before and morning of the race, assist with the water stations, registration table and food table, and help with clean-up. Women’s Cancer Support Group — Noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. Bring a bag lunch or snack. FMI: 207-744-6173.
Men’s Rally Group — 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. Vance Jordan and Nel Bernard facilitate this time for men and their caregivers to connect with others who are also impacted by cancer. Bernard will offer a chair massage to those interested. FMI: 207-890-0329.
Yoga Warriors — 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 7, 14, and 28 (no class Nov. 21), at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St., Norway. This free yoga class will support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breathing, supportive restorative yoga postures, and guided meditation and relaxation. Banding Together To Restore exercise class — 9 to 10 a.m. Thursdays, Nov. 1, 8, 15 and 29, at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St. This program led by Lori Britting is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored Therabands. Each participant will be encouraged to work within their abilities that will safely gain their desired goals. Preregistration is encouraged. Yoga for Wellness — 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays, Nov. 2, 9, 16 and 30. Either Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing. Check the website for more information.
Chair Yoga — 3 to 4 p.m. Fridays, Nov. 2, 9, and 30. Sherri will lead the class at the Center which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing.
Self-Reflexology — 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9. This class is for those who want to learn about reflexology. Karen Tibbetts will demonstrate how applying pressure to reflex points may help improve circulation and reduce body stress.
Self-Reiki — 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27. Charlotte Labelle will demonstrate how Reiki helps to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Stampin’ Up — 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. Kathy provides materials and instruction to make a variety of cards.
Fun with Crafts — 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 6, 13 and 20. Sherri and other volunteers will bring in a different project to try each week. Attendees can learn something new or bring a project they are working on to share.
Beading Project — 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Lively Accents, 310 Main St. Cathy will bring different projects for attendees to make. Attendeess will learn how to make something with beads.
Wire Wrapping — 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27. Chris Doyle will be coming in to teach how to do wire wrapping. Materials will be provided.
The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is at 199 Main St. in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building. They offer a variety of programs as well as comfort items, free to anyone impacted by cancer.
