TURNER — Leavitt Area High School will be participating in the Hornets vs Hunger walk in conjunction with Make a Difference Day on Wednesday, Oct. 24 with a weather date of Oct. 25. The entire school community will walk to the Turner Elementary School and around the high school in an effort to raise funds and food for the Greene, Leeds and Turner food banks.
Starting around 10:15 a.m., Leavitt students will line up by class and walk together. The Hornets vs Hunger walk will begin behind the high school and make a loop that will pass by Turner Elementary School, Tripp Middle School and Leavitt.
Though only Leavitt students and staff will be walking, the entire community is participating with donations. The Greene, Leeds and Turner students have either donated non-perishable food items or money to help reduce hunger in the MSAD 52 community. These donations will be given to Leavitt students in need and to the local food banks.
The food need in the local area and is on the rise. Food and cash donations can be dropped off in the Leavitt main office. For more information, contact dustin.williamson@msad52.org. The walk is organized by the Leavitt Key Club, the Leavitt Running Club, the National Honor Society and by several Leavitt teachers and students.
Make a Difference Day this year is Oct. 27, and has been on the fourth Saturday of October since 1992. Due to scheduling reasons, Leavitt students are able to participate mid-week in order to contribute to the national acts of volenteerism and assisting the community.
