Sumner rescue coverage 

What happened: Town Manager Joe Roach announced Buckfield Rescue will continue to cover Sumner through the towns’ mutual aid agreement from Sunday, Oct. 28, until Thursday, Nov. 29, due to Tri-Town Rescue closing.

What it means: Buckfield now covers one-third of the town and Tri-Town Rescue covers two-thirds. “In the short term, it is a courtesy and a safety measure for our neighbors to cover them in mutual aid for the month. Beyond that there … would be a contract and revenue to come to the town,” Roach said, noting details would need to be discussed. Currently there is a per capita rate for each Sumner resident who is covered by Buckfield Rescue and Tri-Town Rescue.

What’s next: Selectmen will discuss whether Buckfield will pick up the rest of Sumner’s coverage until June, as recommended by Roach. Buckfield Rescue Chief Floyd “Chip” Richardson has already had meetings with Sumner officials and will attend a future Buckfield selectmen meeting to discuss the situation.

Planning Board special town meeting

What happened: Selectmen scheduled a special town meeting to address changes to the town’s Planning Board Ordinance.

What it means: The proposed major changes include reducing the members from seven to five, shortening terms from five to three years and no longer requiring the board to meet monthly.

What’s next: The special town meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6, and voters will be able to weigh in on the changes via their ballots when they come in to vote on Election Day.

GA Ordinance

What happened: Selectmen held a public hearing and then adopted the updated General Assistance Ordinance.

What it means: This happens every year and the changes to the ordinance are dictated by the state. The maximums allowed under the ordinance, which helps individuals or families in need, were increased for each category.

Selectmen meeting

What’s next: Board of Selectmen Chair Cheryl Coffman announced the board’s regularly scheduled meeting will still be on Election Day — Nov. 6 — in the upstairs meeting room of Municipal Building, 34 Turner St.

What it means: Selectmen also rescheduled their meeting with the school board representatives for the Nov. 6 meeting to learn about RSU 10’s budget processing.
