RUMFORD — Will Sorensen calmly parlayed a bounding ball off the keeper into the back of the net in the first minute of overtime to aid Mountain Valley in squeaking out a 2-1 victory over Monmouth in boys’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs (10-3-0) controlled much of the action in the first half, but the score never got off the ground with a 0-0 tie at the half. The Falcons (7-6-1) held strong on defense to provide later opportunities for a huge end-of-season closeout.
Corey Armstrong was able to hit the back of the net at the 24 minute mark on a pass from Hayden Fletcher to put the Mustangs up 1-0. But the Falcons’ Cam Gallant took a strike from 25 yards out that deflected off the crossbar, and caromed in the side netting to knot the score at 1-1.
Gallant added an assist in the first minute of overtime off a free kick from 35 yards out when the ball deflected off two Monmouth defenders and in and out of the hands of the keeper, straight to the feet of Sorensen, who calmly put the game away.
BUCKFIELD 2, RANGELEY 1
BUCKFIELD — Elijah Chasse notched the game-winning goal on a relay from Noah Willey as Buckfield dispatched Rangeley 2-1 in boys’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Bucks (8-3-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first half with a Victor Verrill tally.
Leo Perez tied the game on a penalty kick in the second half for the Lakers (4-8). But, Chasse sealed the deal 10 minutes later for Buckfield.
Goalie Garrett Burgess made 14 saves for Rangeley, while goalie Rick Kraske pushed away two to earn the win in net for Buckfield.
GRAY-NG 1, POLAND 0
GRAY — Drew LaCerda recorded the only goal of the game as Gray-New Gloucester clipped Poland 1-0 in boys’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots edged the Knights with 11 shots to nine, and also had 10 corner kicks to the Knights’ two.

WELLS 8, POLAND 0
WELLS — Hannah Cottis finished with four goals and an assist as the Warriors beat the Knights, 8-0.
Grace Boucher, Mackenzie Foss, Sarah Webb and Fran Ramsdell also scored for Wells (4-10), which led 3-0 at halftime.
Gabrielle Bolduc made nine saves for Poland (3-10).
BRUNSWICK 5, LEWISTON 0
LEWISTON — Anna Kousky and Marley Groat each scored two goals as Brunswick coasted to a 5-0 victory over Lewiston in girls’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons (11-1-1) led 2-0 at halftime. Charlotte MacMillan rounded out the scoring.
Gemma Landry made 16 saves for the Blue Devils (2-10-1), and teammate Izzy Cormier added five saves. Brunswick’s Aisley Snell stopped six shots.
SPRUCE MTN. 2, DIRIGO 0
DIXFIELD — Jaycee Cole scored the opening goal as Spruce Mountain ambled its way to a 2-0 victory over Dirigo in girls’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Phoenix took a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Grace Harmatys scored in the second half for Spruce Mountain.
Goalie Katie Morse made eight saves for the Cougars, while Anabelle Collins and Calley Baker stopped two in combined keeper duties for Spruce Mountain.
OXFORD HILLS 8, CONY 1
SOUTH PARIS — Ceceilia Dieterich notched a hat trick as Oxford Hills plundered its way to an 8-1 victory over Cony in girls’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings (8-3-2) purloined five goals in the first half to lead 5-0 at the midpoint. Ella Kellogg and Ollivia Swift added two goals each for Oxford Hills.
Talia Jorgensen appropriated the lone Rams’ (0-12-1) goal to lead off the scoring in the second half.
Goalie Kiara Henrey and Haley Cyr combined for 14 saves for Cony, while goalie Jillian Douglas had six saves to earn the win in net for Oxford Hills.
