History will come alive at 'Ghosts of Freeport’s Past' tours

FREEPORT — The Freeport Historical Society and Freeport Players invite all to join them in the Woodlawn Cemetery on West Street for the ghostly voices of Freeport blacksmiths and shopkeepers at the annual cemetery tour.

Walk among the graves and learn about ancestors from the 19th century. All apparitions will be portrayed by actors from the Freeport Players, in period costume, who will materialize and share stories from their mortal state.

This event is historical, not scary, and is appropriate for school-aged children. Tickets are on sale.

Tours will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-27, at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3:30 p.m., a special tour will be presented indoors at the First Parish Congregational Church, 40 Main St. If it rains, the evening tours will also move inside the church, with one presentation at 7 p.m.; ticket-holders will be contacted.

Those planning to attend should dress for the weather and for walking. Evening tours will only adjourn to the First Parish Congregational Church if the weather is very bad.

Tours are limited to about 15 participants each, so reservations are recommended.

Tickets are $12 general admission; $10 for Freeport Historical Society members; $5 for children 12 and younger. They are available online at fcponline.org/ghosts-of-freeports-past/. If still available, tickets will also be sold at the entrance.
