I have a list of qualities I feel people should look for in selecting a governor. The top state leader must place the needs of the people of Maine ahead of the desires of any party affiliations. The governor needs to be skilled at crossing the aisle and of promoting thoughtful compromise. The governor should base decisions on data rather than on emotional sways put forth by political cohorts. And finally, the governor must be intelligent, experienced in state politics and possess a high level of honesty and integrity.

Though that is a demanding list of qualifications, it is no less than what the people of Maine should expect.

With that in mind, I choose to support Terry Hayes, who has consistently exemplified all those attributes. I hope all Maine voters will give her full consideration, as she is the best hope of bringing unity back to this state.

Kay Herbert, Sumner
