FRYEBURG — A farmer was injured Friday night when he was kicked by his horse during a pulling event at the Fryeburg Fair, a fair spokesman said.

The 59-year-old farmer was conscious when medical crews arrived, the spokesman said, but because it was a head injury, he was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by LifeFlight helicopter as a precaution.

Witnesses reported seeing the helicopter flying the victim away from the grounds shortly before 8 p.m.

Fryeburg police said they were called to the scene and officers were investigating the incident later Friday night. They did not have further details.

The man’s identity was not disclosed.

Both ox and horse pulling events were held at the fair Friday, the sixth day of the eight-day event.
