LIVERMORE — Selectpersons on Monday night approved several paving bids and the 2018-19 guidelines for General Assistance.

The board unanimously approved contracting Spencer Group Paving of Turner to pave 4,700 feet of Butter Hill Road with 2.5 inches of cold mix asphalt for $95,058.40 and 300 feet of Norton Road with the same mix for $5,749.50.

Prior to the vote, Selectperson Scott Richmond said about $70,000 would be left in the capital roads account if the paving was approved.

The board also approved Spencer Group Paving’s bid of $2,500 to pave around the new concrete pad at the Town Office-Fire Station complex on the Crash Road. That money will come from the building maintenance account.

Select Board Chairperson Mark Chretien said he was concerned about water getting under the pad if the work wasn’t done.

Administrative Assistant Amy Byron told the board she received an email from Maine Municipal Association recommending that warning signs be installed at the sand/salt shed and limiting access to the shed because in another town a resident was injured when a sand pile collapsed on them.

Highway Foreman Roger Ferland said signs were installed when the shed opened. The area where residents get sand has eight to 10 cubic yards of mix spread out over the floor and a collapse would be unlikely.

Ferland said paving on Strickland Ferry and Robinson Roads had been pushed back because of rain. He expects the paving to be done next week. One to two days will be needed to complete both roads.

Byron said absentee ballots for the Nov. 6 election will be available in the Town Office on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Dog registrations for 2019 will be available after Oct. 15.

In other business, the board, by consensus, agreed to make eye insurance available to town employees. Byron said MMA is offering that insurance to interested employees at no cost to the town. Employees would pay a monthly rate, determined by the number of family members covered by the plan.
