AUBURN — An 18-year-old Fairfield man was indicted by an Androscoggin County grand jury Tuesday on charges stemming from a robbery at the Irving Mainway at 674 Main St. in Lewiston in August.
Isaac Sterling was indicted on one count of robbery, two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, leaving the scene of an accident and operating without a license.
According to previous reports, a clerk at the convenience store said a man with his face covered came into the store about 1 a.m. and announced it was an “armed robbery,” according to a news release by Lewiston police Lt. David St. Pierre.
Although the suspect didn’t present a weapon, he demanded all the money in the cash drawer, plus cigarettes, and fled with $67 in cash and cigarettes, according to police.
A short time later, police saw a silver Cadillac on Main Street drive onto the median, hit a sign near a crosswalk across from Central Maine Medical Center and drive away.
The driver was later identified as Sterling, who was arrested and charged, police said.
Sterling is scheduled to appear in Androscoggin County Superior Court on Friday.
