Q&A
1) What legislation do you support, if any, to address the state’s opiate crisis?
I support LD 1430, providing a continuum of evidenced-based services to address the opiate crisis. We must provide ease of access to resources and support for all Mainers impacted by opiate addiction.
2) What legislation do you support, if any, to address failures in the state’s child abuse prevention system?
We must focus on timely and effective response to child abuse and neglect reports, utilizing cross sector collaboration to keep kids safe. Promoting family resilience and support resources.
3) Should schools continue to push forward with proficiency-based diplomas? Why or why not?
There should be statewide consistency in curriculum and graduation standards. Schools should have the authority over how they implement curriculum, teach and measure/assess proficiency.
4) Are you in favor of some type of universal health care for Maine residents? Why, or why not?
I support universal health care. Health care is a basic necessity and right. Universal health care promotes equality in health, leading to improved health outcomes and better access to care for all.
5) Do you support Question 1 (the 3.8 percent tax to fund the home care program)? Why, or why not?
No, this would have a negative impact on small business and rural communities. We have a workforce crisis in social services, unable to staff current programs. We must support existing programs first.
6) Are you frustrated by the political sniping, exaggeration and even lies between the parties and their supporters that have threatened progress usually reached through respect and reasoned compromise? If so, what will you personally do to make the situation better?
I will focus on civility. Deny polarization, and utilize relationship to build the mutual trust and respect necessary to get to work in Augusta. Promoting collaboration and integrity across the aisle.
7) Tell voters something about yourself that they don’t already know, and might surprise them.
I am an open book :).
