FRYEBURG — The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “Met Opera: Live in HD” series presents Verdi’s “Aida” at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.

In what should be a highlight of the new season, soprano Anna Netrebko sings her first Met “Aida,” going toe-to-toe with mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili as Amneris. Nicola Luisotti takes the podium. Estimated run time: 3 hours, 36 minutes. Light refreshments will be available during intermission.

Local opera enthusiast Joe De Vito will be hosting his Opera Lecture Series at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the LHE/PAC seminar room. De Vito’s workshop, which is free and open to all, will provide an in-depth look at “Aida’s” music, story, composer and more.
