With the L/A Nordiques needing a spark, their coach Cam Robichaud gave them the jolt they needed.

He and the rest of the Nordiques weren’t pleased with the officiating, Robichaud gave referee a piece of his mind and was subsequently given the boot. The team responded with two late third period goals to send the game in overtime where the Nordiques pulled out a 7-6 victory in a shootout over the Northeast Generals at the New England Sports Village in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

L/A finished the month of September with a perfect 8-0 record.

“There were probably 12 minutes left when I got sent off,” Robichaud said. “As I was walking off the ice, the boys were hooting and hollering, hitting their sticks on the boards. I don’t know, they were excited about it. It got them going. Who knows?”

As Robichaud headed to the locker room, he told the players not to worry about all the penalties in the game they took. The Nordiques had 20 interfractions for a total 80 penalty minutes compared to only nine infractions for the Generals.

The Nordiques did deserve to be sent to the box at times, according to Robichaud.

“It’s one of those games you can’t even be upset with your team with the amount of penalties,” Robichaud said. “Half of them absolutely were penalties. There were some of them I didn’t say a word. I was like ‘Yep, that was a bad hit, that was a penalty.’ But the other half were, ‘Whoa, someone was searching for a call there.'”

The Generals started the the period period down 4-3. Tyler Rudek scored 46 seconds into the third period. Rudek had assists on the next two Northeast goals as Robby Beck gave the Generals a 5-4 lead 7:08 into the period. Marc Faia gave the Generals a 6-4 lead on the power play 8:49 into the period.

The Generals had four power play goals in the game, yet Robichaud takes a positive out of that.

“They run a box and one, we made an adjustment after the third power play goal,” Robichaud said. “We did a better job shutting them down. So watching video and working on it in practice for the next time we play them, we will be better at the kill.”

The Nordiques scored two times on the power play.

Zack Mullen scored for the Nordiques with just under five minutes to go, with Mike Keller getting the assist. Colby Audette played the role of quarterback on the final offensive zone faceoff of regulation by directing where players should line up. The puck reached Cole Ouellette, who blasted his second goal of the season with eight seconds remaining in the game.

Five minutes of overtime didn’t settle anything. Audette scored the shootout winner in the fourth round.

The Nordiques jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one period with Armand O’Keefe, Josh Sanchez and Sergei Anisimov finding the back of the net.

Jeffrey Sidoit was the goal scorer for the Generals.

In the second period, Carson Asper and Thaddeus Marcola tied the game at three. Joe Bisson scored just before the halfway mark of the second period to give the Nordiques the 4-3 advantage heading into the third.

Robichaud gave Jason St. Pierre the second straight start after not getting much action Saturday against the Maine Wild. He made 21 saves while his counterpart in the Generals net, John Driscoll, also made 21 saves.
