AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1 at the Park Avenue Methodist Church on Park Avenue.
Hostesses for this meeting are Evelyn Larrabee, Sally Plummer, Lula Farrington, Mary Goss and Marian Marks.
The guest speaker for this meeting will be Rachel Desgrosseilliers, Executive Director of Museum L-A of Lewiston, Maine.
Rachel received her BS in Accounting, graduating Magna Cum Laude from New Hampshire College, her Masters in Hospital and Health Care Administration from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. She was Chief Executive Officer of St. Mary’s Hospital/Marcotte Nursing Home Health Care Campus for 11 years. She became a health care consultant when she developed the first Walk-In Health Care Clinic in Maine.
Rachel was the founder of the Great Falls Balloon Festival which brings over 140,000 people to the community for a 3-day weekend and 2-3 million dollars of economic impact each year.
She has received the Chamber of Commerce Ray Geiger Award for leadership in the community, named Auburn Citizen of the Year for Outstanding Services and Dedication to the Community and Citizen of Auburn Business Woman of the Year from the Professional Business Woman’s Association, and was inducted in the Franco Hall of Fame for the State of Maine for work done to preserve and enhance the history of Franco-Americans in Maine.
Since 2004 she has been at Museum L-A where she presented the Board with the idea of millworker reunions from which she developed into a major oral history project that also included brickworkers and shoeworkers and which are ow moving towards local business histories. These histories then become the basis of exhibits, education programming, sharing experiences, community engagement and becoming a Museum Without Walls. She is now working towards the development and building of a new community museum for Lewiston and Auburn.
