FARMINGTON — Franklin County Animal Shelter is featuring Dandy and Dopey as its Pets of the Week. Also, the fifth annual Strut for Strays! 5K Trail Run & Dog Walk to benefit FCAS is happening at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at 10:30 a.m., and all are welcome to participate in this special event.

Dandy is a 4- to 6-year-old female who is a very shy girl looking for a quiet home that matches her personality. She does very well with other kitties, and would prefer a home where she has another cat who would be her friend.

Dopey is a 1- to 3- year-old male hound mix who is a favorite among staff at the shelter — but he’s the shelter’s longest resident at six months. Staff members feel this is because he gets excited when he sees people near his kennel, and visitors may think that he’s scary. The truth is he is really friendly outside of his kennel, and visitors may ask to see him outside the kennel. He loves going for walks and he may make a great hunting companion with and training. He also loves to play, and really likes playing with other dogs, so he’d like to see if he and a prospective family’s dog could be friends. However, he should not be in a home with cats.

Dandy, Dopey and other pets may be visited at the shelter from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays at 550 Industry Road. Cats and dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption and have been vaccinated for rabies, treated for fleas, microchipped and have had nail trims. The shelter also rehomes barn cats, livestock and other pets.
