BANGOR — The University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer team picked up their first conference win of the year with a 2-1 win over Husson University at Boucher Field in North Atlantic Conference action Saturday.
UMF was outshot by the Eagles 11-5, while the Beavers made five saves on the day to Husson’s one save. The Eagles took five corner kicks and the Beavers took two.
McKenna Brodeur scored the Beavers first goal at the 9:43 minute with an assist to Hadlee Yescott. Yescott scored the second goal for the Beavers after Brodeur passed one into the box to lead Yescott into the left corner.
Olivia Tapley-Gately scored at the 20:17-minute mark to make the score 2-1, but the Beavers held on for the victory.
UMF will host Thomas College on Saturday at noon.
Field hockey
Husson 4, UMF 1
BANGOR — University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team dropped their conference opener 4-1 against Husson University.
The Eagles outshot the Beavers 20-8 on the day, along with 10 penalty corners to the Beavers’ seven. The Beavers had 14 saves on the day. The Eagles had five.
Arika Brochu scored first for the Eagles on an assist to Kelly Griffin to give the their team a 1-0 lead. UMF’s Kyla Sturtevant scored less than a minute later with the assist to Torrie Nightingale.
Haley Ward scored the next three goals to give Husson the 4-1 victory. The Beavers will host Thomas College on Saturday for an 11 a .m.
Men’s soccer
Husson 2, UMF 1 (OT)
BANGOR — The University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team fell to Husson University 2-1 in overtime in North Atlantic Conference action.
The Beavers took eight shots on the day while the Eagles took 15 shots. Beavers goalie Matt Wilson made 11 saves on the day. Kyle Townsend and Benjamin Powell each made one save.
Dylan Bryce scored the first goal of the game for the Eagles, with an assist to Rod Ghanayem. UMF’s Tristan Price headed one into the back of the net after Andrew Longhurst put one in the box after a free kick. Husson’s Rafael Paganoni scored the final goal of the game in overtime at the 95:54 mark.
The Beavers will host Thomas at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Bob Leib Field.
