FRYEBURG — The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “Met Opera: Live in HD” series is returning to the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center for the 2018-19 season, starting Saturday, Oct. 6.
Viewers can experience the Met’s world-renowned performances on the big screen with surround sound in the state-of-the-art theater.
The season opens with Verdi’s “Aida” at 1 p.m. Oct. 6. Soprano Anna Netrebko will sing her first Met Aida, going toe-to-toe with mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili as Amneris. Estimated run time is three hours, 36 minutes. Light refreshments will be available during intermission.
Local opera enthusiast Joe De Vito will return to host his informative and entertaining Opera Lecture Series every Thursday before a “Live in HD” show at 3 p.m. at the Peforming Arts Center. His workshops, which are free and open to all, provide an in-depth look at the upcoming opera’s music, story, composer, and more.
The season continues with “Samson et Dalila” on Oct. 20; “La Fanciulla del West” on Oct. 27; “Marnie” on Nov. 10; and “La Traviata” on Dec. 15. For 2019: “Adriana Lecouvreur” on Jan. 12; “Carmen” on Feb. 2; “La Fille du Regiment” on March 2; “Die Walkure” on March 30; and “Dialogues des Carmelites” on May 11.

Season tickets, which grant access to all 10 simulcasts for the price of nine, are available now through Saturday, Oct. 6. The Performing Arts Center is at 18 Bradley St. in Fryeburg.
