DIXFIELD — Taylor Bryant scored 2:40 into the second overtime to send Dirigo to a thrilling 2-1 win over rival Mountain Valley in Mountain Valley Conference field hockey action on Monday.
The Falcons held a 1-0 lead on Rylee Sevigny’s unassisted goal in the first half. The Cougars tied it 17:58 into the second half on Alyvia Perreault’s goal. Kailey Hackett, who assisted on that goal, also assisted on Bryant’s game-winner.
Allie Dye made 1 save for Dirigo (6-4). Nora Tay made three stops in the cage for Mountain Valley (7-3).
GRAY-NG 5, TRAIP 0
GRAY — Madelyn Cote had a pair of goals to pace the offense as Gray-New Gloucester outshot Traip by a margin of 26-5 to defeat the Rangers, 5-0.
Jaida Patterson and Jasmine French each had goals for Gray-New Gloucester (3-7), while Zoe Barnes contributed a goal and an assist.
Makayla Mattingly and Nichole Roberts combined for 15 saves for Traip Academy (0-7), while Mack Baston turned back all three shots she faced to record the shutout for the Patriots.
BOOTHBAY 4, LISBON 1
BOOTHBAY — Chloe Arsenault was responsible for all of the offense, scoring a natural hat trick in the first half, as Boothbay defeated Lisbon, 4-1, in MVC field hockey action.
Arsenault opened the scoring on a feed from Riley Sullivan at the 12:17 mark for Boothbay (3-7) and added a pair of unassisted goals in the final 2:30 of the first half.
Mallory Fairbanks got Lisbon (4-5) on the board, putting in her unassisted goal from the top of the circle at the 17:00 mark of the second half, before Arsenault rounded out the scoring on a setup from Cortney Meader.
Becky Budesheim had 13 saves for the Greyhounds.
FREEPORT 4, POLAND 0
FREEPORT — Four first-half goals, including three in the first 7:27, propelled Freeport to a 4-0 victory over Poland in a Western Maine Conference field hockey game.
Natalie Anderson scored the first goal just a shade over four minutes into the game, then made it 2-0 almost three minutes later.
Freeport would have won by at least eight goals if not for tremendous play by Poland goalkeeper Ashton Sturtevant (11 saves).
Sturtevant made multiple impressive saves, including a few tremendous stops in the second half.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 2, TELSTAR 0
JAY — Jaycee Cole scored both of the game’s goals 2:25 apart to lead Spruce Mountain to a 2-0 victory over Telstar in MVC girls’ soccer action on Monday.
Calley Baker and Leah Gilbert assisted on the goals. Annabelle Collins stopped the only shot on goal she saw to secure the shutout for the Phoenix (6-3). Luce Rothwell made 14 saves for the Rebels (2-6).
GRAY-NG 6, OOB 1
OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Jordan Grant scored twice for Gray-New Gloucester, which took a 2-1 halftime lead and pulled away from Old Orchard Beach, 6-1, in Western Maine Conference girls’ soccer action.
Alexa Thayer added two goals for Gray-New Gloucester (5-3), and Brianna Jordan and Abigail Ross also scored.
Chloe Kocian had a first-half goal for Old Orchard.
Kaitlin Halle stopped nine shots for the Seagulls (0-8-1). Chelsea Davis recorded four saves for the Patriots.
GOLF
WINTHROP 6, SPRUCE MTN. 1
LEEDS — Winthrop out-shot Spruce Mountain 185-211 to get its first win of the MVC golf playoffs on Monday, 6-1.
Winthrop’s Cam Hachey and Nate Miller were the low medalist as they both shot 44 in wins over Matt Fenlason and Hannah Coates, respectively. Jackson Ladd fired a 47 over Spruce Mountain’s Dylan Gordon. Phoenix golfer Hayley Turcotte earned the Phoenix’s lone win on the day shooting a 46 to defeat Zach Pray, 50, one up.
