GREENWOOD, S.C. — Louise Grace Reed O’Quinn, 83, widow of the late Charles S. O’Quinn, resident of Old Abbeville Highway, died Thursday Sept. 20, at her residence.

Born in Jay on Dec. 16, 1934, to the late James K. And Grace Berube Reed, she graduated from St. Louis Hospital School of Nursing as an RN in 1956, and she went to work for the Raymond Clinic as an office nurse in the Republic of Panama. Louise moved to Atlanta, Ga., as a surgical assistant head nurse in Crawford W. Long Hospital in 1958. She moved to Greenwood and began a long career at Self Memorial Hospital as an obstetrical staff nurse in 1959, and serving as a medical head nurse, ICCU head nurse, critical care supervisor and coordinator of Special Services during her career. Louise retired in 1994 as director of cardiac rehabilitation. Throughout her career she attended numerous training classes including a head nurse course at the University of Tennessee, advanced coronary care training, emergency medical technician instructor course, advanced cardiac life support, physiologic pacing course, hospital management course, ACLS instructor course, cardiac pacemakers, cardiac rehab program at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, drug therapy in cardiology, and numerous others.

Louise worked at Piedmont Technical College as an ACLS instructor, paramedic instructor, and a CPR instructor.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Scientific Council of American Heart Association, American Heart Association, South Carolina Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Association, South Carolina Nurses Association, and a former member of Greenwood County Emergency Medical Services Board.

Surviving are her children, Michael Charles O’Quinn of Chapin S.C., and Sandra Louise Segars and husband Jeff of Piedmont, S.C.; her grandchildren, Sarah Kendall O’Quinn of Ninety Six and Jeffrey Reed Segars of Columbia; her great-grandson, Daniel Travis O’Quinn; her sister, Jeanine “Jean” Wilkins (Hersey) of Livermore Falls; her brother, Edward “Eddie” Reed (Sharon) of Myrtle Beach. She was predeceased by three sisters, Betty Mullins, Doris Girardin and Arlene Dysart.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Timothy Tebalt officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service in the narthex of the church.
