TOPSHAM — Leon S. Schenk, 66, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, at his sister’s home in Topsham with his family by his side after a battle with cancer.

Leon was born April 1, 1952, in Kingston, Pa., to Edgar J. and Audrey E. (Williams) Schenk (Schinck). On Feb. 26, 1971, he married Kathy Huen. Together they raised two children. Leon attended schools in Brunswick, Lisbon and Dover-Foxcroft. As a licensed boiler operator, he worked for U.S. Gypsum and Bath Iron Works. He was self-employed as a plumber, electrician, owned and operated a convenience store, and drove trucks. He was a jack-of-all-trades.

His passions were living life, riding his Harley and especially his children. He also had a passion for restoring and driving old cars and trucks (Corvettes, Studebakers and hot rods), Willys Jeeps and Harleys. For many years, Leon resided in Baldwin County, Ala.

Leon is survived by his son, Randall Schenk, of West Bath; his daughter, Jennifer Schenk, and significant other Raymond Martelli of Methuen, Mass.; sisters Sandra Orgas and significant other Roger Wabiszewski of Franklin, Wis., Linda (Schenk) Dumont and her husband, Ted, of Topsham; brother, Edward Schenk, of Brunswick; half-brother, Dana Chapman, and wife Amanda of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepbrothers Bill White, Clyde White, George White, Peter White and Stephen White; two grandchildren, Miranda and Joseph Schenk; former wife, Kathy Schenk, of Auburn; and several nieces, nephews and extended family. He also leaves behind many friends, especially John and Sue Chasse and family of Lisbon; his Harley-riding friends; and his car enthusiast friends, with whom he made many fond memories.

He was predeceased by his parents.

A celebration of life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the American Legion Post 202, 79 Foreside Road, Topsham. A family burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath at a later date.
