JAY — A special town meeting will be held Monday for voters to decide whether to borrow up to $3.9 million to install a new system to send sewage from North Jay to Livermore Falls for treatment.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Town Office.

The plan is to eliminate use of the North Jay Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is nearly 20 years old, and install a pump station and force main system to run beside a multipurpose trail, an old railroad bed owned by the state.

The system would connect to a collection system at the Jay Plaza and the sewage would then go to the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The cost for the project is estimated at $3.9 million. At an estimated maximum interest rate of 1.5 percent and an estimated maximum term of 20 years, the interest on the bonds would be $638,629.38, for a total debt of $4.53 million.

The estimated annual payment is $225,900.
