AUBURN — Rena Fernande Laplante, 87, of Lewiston died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 12, at Clover Manor in Auburn following a long illness. She was born May 16, 1931, the youngest daughter of (Napoleon) Paul and Rosette Lapointe.

She attended Lewiston schools and worked most of her life in the footwear industry.

Until her illness of dementia, Rena enjoyed playing bingo, hanging with her friends and family at the Pastime Club and enjoyed going to their summer picnics. As a young girl, she enjoyed roller skating and dancing with family friends. One of her favorite pastimes was going to Old Orchard Beach, Reid State Park and other beaches with large groups of her family. Some of her favorite things were receiving balloons (for any occasion), shopping and scratch tickets. She also looked forward to football season so she could “watch football and win the pool.”

She married Arlie Laplante in 1974 and had 44 happy years of marriage. She leaves behind her husband, Arlie; daughter, Doris, and husband, Michael Davis; her grandchildren, Shelley and husband, Jack Burger, Paul and wife, Carrie Butler, Matt Butler, Amanda St. Hilaire, Wyatt St. Hilaire; and daughter-in-law, Lisa St. Hilaire; nine great-grandchildren, Tannon, Katie, Alexis, Kiya, Kaden, Hannah, Morgan, Keira and Kaelyn; and three great-great-grandchildren, David, Katalenah and Thomas. She also leaves behind one sister-in-law, Terry Lapointe; and many nieces and nephews and their children. She was very fond of all her family.

She was predeceased by her parents; her son, Donnie; her sister, Rita; and her brothers, Rudolphe, aka Dadu, Bobbie and Roland; and a sister-in-law, Rita Lapointe.

Many thanks to Clover Manor Rehab and Dublin Units and Hospice for the good and compassionate care. A celebration of life is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Pastime Club Hall.
