NEW YORK CITY — After nearly 30 years of defiantly and successfully staring down multiple cancers, Heléne Beth Krasner, 69, of New York City finally succumbed, with loving friends and family by her side. The quintessential New Yorker was laid to rest among family who predeceased her, in Cedar Park and Beth El Cemeteries in Paramus, N.J.
Born in New York, Heléne lived life at her own direction and found joy in being with friends, family and always living in the moment. An unofficial mayor of New York City, she was an avid Yankees and Giants fan, and seemed somehow to have befriended everyone with whom she came into contact. Her stories — with the occasional embellishment — were legend among her friends and family.
Heléne was most protective of and adored her “baby sister,” Amy Nussinow, and Amy’s husband, Scott Nussinow, both of Auburn. She doted on her nephew, Chad Nussinow, of Waltham, Mass., her niece, Jennifer, and the most recent addition to the family, Jen’s husband William Tasker, both of Boston.
Heléne’s greatest gifts were her laughter, her friendship, her compassion and her unquestionable love. Those most important to her paid their final respects with an overwhelming presence under a hot September sun.
To the skilled health care professionals at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC and all who helped comfort Heléne and our families — thank you. Memorial donations may be sent in Heléne’s name to American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Susan G. Komen.
